From Publishers Weekly
Urban Celtic fantasy slides down a dark, depressing slope in bestseller Moning's third Fever thriller (after Bloodfever), centered on a hunt for the Sinsar Dubh, a black magic book more than a million years old. As All Hallow's Eve in Dublin approaches, the walls between the human world and Faery verge on collapse. Can former Georgia peach MacKayla Mac Lane prevent a total invasion of the Unseelie Court? Originally intent on avenging her sister Alina's murder committed by Unseelie Lord Master, Mac's now a power-player in the war between the Seelie (good Fae) and Unseelie (bad Fae), after learning she's a Celtic sidhe-seeker who can sniff out OOPS (Objects of Power). Meanwhile, the attractive V'Lane, a death-by-sex Fae, wants Mac's help in securing the Sinsar Dubh for his Seelie queen, Aoibheal. At the end, erotic shocks await Mac in Dublin's vast Dark Zone, setting up feverish—if wary—expectations for the next installment. (Sept.) Product Description
He calls me his Queen of the Night. I d die for him. I d kill for him, too. When MacKayla Lane receives a torn page from her dead sister s journal, she is stunned by Alina s desperate words. And now MacKayla knows that her sister s killer is close. But evil is closer. And suddenly the sidhe-seer is on the hunt: For answers. For revenge. And for an ancient book of dark magic so evil, it corrupts anyone who touches it.
Mac s quest for the Sinsar Dubh takes her into the mean, shape-shifting streets of Dublin, with a suspicious cop on her tail. Forced into a dangerous triangle of alliance with V lane, an insatiable Fae prince of lethally erotic tastes, and Jericho Barrons, a man of primal desires and untold secrets, Mac is soon locked in a battle for her body, mind, and soul.
As All Hallows Eve approaches and the city descends into chaos, as a shocking truth about the Dark Book is uncovered, not even Mac can prevent a deadly race of immortals from shattering the walls between worlds with devastating consequences...
Reader Reviews
This review is from: Faefever (Fever, Book 3) (Hardcover)
Before I address the negative comments of others regarding this book, I want to say this in case you're just looking for a quick review: This was an AMAZING book, and I highly recommend reading it after Darkfever, and Bloodfever (in that order). Okay, now on to other things. There have been several negative comments about the Fever series, (most recently Faefever) regarding their innate lack of sex and/or a romantic story line. Karen Marie Moning (hereafter known as KMM) has made SEVERAL comments illuminating us to the fact that these are NOT romance novels. (I believe the quote said something like, "I know they're not romance, I wrote them.") I would recommend what others have said who enjoyed the book; if you're looking for a typical romance story line, i.e. boy meets girl, conflict arises, sex ensues, happily ever after occurs, then you probably won't enjoy these novels. I, like many others, am engrossed by Mac's story, and whatever happens in the future is guaranteed to be a great ride. To me, a good story is a good story, no matter what it's classified as. The same with an author; a good author is a good author. I don't care where I find the book in the store; romance, fiction, sci-fi, non-fiction, the magazine rack, the children's section (hello Harry Potter). If a good story was located in the Evil Books Section, I would buy it. I like to be entertained no matter what the genre. I love a good story that makes me excited, that makes me crazy with anticipation, that takes me outside the realm of possibility, or introduces me to things I've never imagined, or even thought possible. I love a story that takes me to the dark side and brings me back again, I love a story that makes me feel something. Isn't that the point of story-telling? To enjoy the ride? If you don't enjoy it, get off the ride; I'm sure there are plenty more people waiting in line. To those that say not enough happened in the story: I don't want to spoil anything, but I felt SEVERAL things happened that progressed the plot, and you learned a lot about the world Mac is dealing with. This is the third book of five, of course you're not going to have everything tied up in a neat little package. What else would there be to tell! Yes, this book is the darkest of the series so far. Yes, it takes Mac to some incredibly difficult places. Yes, like others, the ending left me in near-tears, in shock, and horrified that the book left off like it did. But this is the typical third act! Everything is messed up; relationships are strained, characters are at their worst, hope looks dim. I have faith that the tide will turn. KMM herself has said she's a big believer in Happily Ever After (HEA), and that Mac is due some serious happiness. And I can't wait to find out exactly what that happiness entails. I will be eagerly awaiting the last two books, Dreamfever and Shadowfever, and I think if you love a good story, that you might too. Enjoy the ride.
